Joe has focused on the business of managing surgery centers since completing his law degree. His expertise and business acumen have evolved just as the ASC industry has evolved. Joe co-founded ASD Management in 1996, and continues today as its managing partner. He has grown to be one of the most respected leaders, speakers and authors in the ASC industry.
Joe focuses on structuring, developing and managing the firm’s surgery centers, and day-to-day operations of ASD Management. He is the primary author of Developing and Managing Surgery Centers, the landmark book on ASC management, now on its third edition. He is a faculty member at the University of Alabama, Birmingham School of Health Sciences MHA program, where he teaches Ambulatory Surgery Development and Management. He publishes frequently, and his articles have appeared in all major ASC publications, including Becker’s ASC Review, Outpatient Surgery and ASC Focus.
Prior to co-founding ASD Management, Joe was corporate counsel for Premier Ambulatory Systems, and focused on acquisitions and physician development. He received his Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee University Law School, and has been honored with election to the Law School Council.
Professional associations: Joe served on the Board of the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (TASCS) and President for two terms.
